He graduated from Nottingham University in 1972 and spent two years with stockbrokers P.N. Kemp Gee & Co. in London and then six years in corporate finance with Standard Merchant Bank Limited in South Africa where he obtained his MBA from The University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

In 1983, he came to Hong Kong where he spent five years in corporate finance, first with Wardley Limited and then Citicorp International Limited where he was co-head of corporate finance and head of corporate finance respectively.

And was a member of the Takeovers and Mergers Panel for more than 30 years, including serving as chairman from 2009 to 2021 and Deputy Chairman from 2021 to 2023.  He was a former director of the Hong Kong Securities Institute and has served as an alternate member of the Listing Committee of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.

He has over 50 years of experience in corporate finance and is regarded as the leading expert on public company takeovers in Hong Kong.  He was also a former independent non-executive director at China Foods Limited from 2005 to 2022.
